Tottenham captain Ledley King has hailed the impact of Ryan Nelsen since his arrival at Spurs in January.
Nelsen, who joined the club from Blackburn, scored his first goal for his new team in Tuesday s 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Bolton at White Hart Lane.
The New Zealand international opened the scoring on the night, and King not only praised Nelsen s contribution to the game but also in general since he signed a short-term deal at the club.
He s a great professional and coming straight into the team wouldn t have been easy because he hasn t played too much football this season, King told the club s official website.
He fitted in straight away, showed his quality and added a lot to the squad.
He came up with a great header against Bolton and lifted a few nerves around the stadium. From there, we got the second quickly and looked comfortable.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has also been impressed with the 34-year-old centre-back s form.
I just think he is a great professional and a real good player, he told Sky Sports after the match.
I couldn t believe I got him on a free. I felt it was an amazing player to bring to the club, he is a player I have been chasing for years.
I have always thought he was top class. A great pro, a great trainer, a fantastic person.
He has got a six-month contract. At the end of the season you have got to keep him here next year because he s worth his weight in gold just to have around for other people to look at the way he works, the way he trains, the way he behaves, his attitude.
That s what football clubs are built upon, people like him, Scott Parker, Brad Friedel. You bring them in and it changes everything. That has been the difference this year.
King secured Carling Cup success at Wembley in 2008, and is hoping for another positive trip to the stadium when Tottenham take on Chelsea in a semi-final on Sunday April 15.
It s great to be going back to such a fantastic stadium and such an occasion against Chelsea, he said.
We know all about the club s tradition in the FA Cup and it feels good to be going back there for another semi-final.
