Better than the ´golden 70s´, Rummenigge revels in Bayern´s dominance

Despite a slow start to the season and the sudden departure of Carlo Ancelotti, it will nevertheless be another frohe Weihnachten for Bayern Munich, who have been congratulated for their efforts in 2017 by chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Bayern spluttered and stumbled early in the campaign, a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in September prompting the club to part company with Ancelotti, who had led them to the Bundesliga title last term.

Luring 2012-13 treble-winning boss Jupp Heynckes out of retirement has prompted a sharp upturn in form, which has seen Bayern reach the mid-season break 11 points clear of second-placed Schalke at the top of the table.

And Rummenigge, writing in a festive letter to supporters, did not miss an opportunity to laud the team…

However, last weekend s shock 6-2 defeat at mid-table Hoffenheim halted Wolfsburg in their tracks after a run of four consecutive wins in all competitions.

Thomas Muller netted a 63rd-minute winner when these sides met in Munich in September and Wolfsburg hav…

Copa Sudamericana Preview: Boca Juniors, River Plate hold narrow leads

Boca Juniors and River Plate hold the upper-hand in their Copa Sudamericana second-round ties heading into their respective second legs.

Coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena replaced Carlos Bianchi in late August, and Boca nabbed a crucial away goal under their new boss in their first leg with Rosario Central in his second match in charge, with the clash ending 1-1.

Also in Boca s favour ahead of Thursday s second leg is the unavailability of Rosario defender Alejandro Donatti, who saw red late on in their first match-up.

Boca s league derby with Racing Club was suspended on Sunday due to torrential rain, halting their progress as they led 1-0.

Boca s home domestic form has been sketchy, mixing two wins with two losses in their past four while their most recent win…
